Jerry Fong

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: retired chemistry professor
Comment: After getting a B. Sc., in Chemistry from UC Berkeley and both an M. Sc. and Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Michigan I spent my entire working life teaching Chemistry at SUNY Alfred and doing glass and electrochemical research at Corning Inc.

I retired in 2018 and am busily traveling the world with my wife of 41 years, Daylih,  (the woman in red in the `Now' pix, who I met in grad school) before either her body or mine gives out.  So far we've been to Greece, Spain, the Amazon, the Galapagoes, Iceland, Turkey and the Baltic States.  When not traveling I am an avid yoga practitioner doing at least one session day, often two. I'm also trying to re-learn all 15 Two Part Inventions by Bach and have the start of a novel.

My two daughters, 28 and 31 (see two on right of the `Now' picture), are both out of the house and happily and gainfully employed in NYC. I'm still living in the same house I bought 37 years ago but its been remodeled three times.  Oh yes, and it's paid for. I can endure upstate NY winters so that I can love upstate NY in this place during the glorious summers and falls.

Sorry I can't come to our (gasp!) 50th HS reunion. I'm traveling to Scotland for another trip of 14 days in September. Have fun and I'll think on you.

Myra Gifford (Krop)

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Registered Nurse, Acupuncturist
Comment: 50 years in a nutshell:  After high school, I lived in Europe for a year.  I returned home and went Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz for a year, then dropped out and travelled some some more, eventually settling in Sonoma County for 20 years, where I got married, raised 3 kids, went to Nursing School and got divorced.  I got remarried in 2001, and we moved back to Santa Cruz, where I attended Five Branches University and got a Madter’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and practiced acupuncture & herbal medicine.  I am still working part-time as a nurse in Santa Cruz. I was not a very popular or social student at WGHS, and haven’t kept in touch with too many people.  I hope to make it the reunion and reconnect with folks!

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Engineering Director (retired)
Comment: Shortly after graduation from Willow Glen, I had a fear of running through rice patties with a gun, so I joined the Navy. I served for 6 years on nuclear submarines.  I managed to get through college with some extension study and attendance.  I married my wife Kathleen while in the Navy. We are blessed with some great kids; a daughter and a son. After my military service I returned to San Jose and worked in the Computer and IT industry for 35 years. Kathleen and I spent much our time away from work, racing sailboats. My wife and I are currently retired and living in San Diego, California close to our kids. We just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. We spend most of our time traveling, gardening and generally enjoying life.

Comment: Looks like our cruise was overbooked so we will be there after all!

Hi everyone - hope this message finds you happy and healthy.  Sorry I can’t make the reunion but my twin sister, Bobbi, will fill in for us both!  My husband, Raymond, and I will be on a Viking Mediterranean cruise so are otherwise engaged.  As you can see in the picture, I have 2 children and a grandchild on the way (my first!). Take care and God bless!

Comment: “Livin’ the dream” up here in the Northwest.  Retired early as a school administrator and chose to travel the country / world often.  After graduating from college, I taught at Curtis High School in Tacoma, WA for 10 years.  I traveled south to be a school administrator and ended up in Vancouver, WA for working at Evergreen and Heritage High Schools.  Now, with just about 50 years of my life gone by since Willow Glen days, it’s easy to reflect how proud I am of my twin sons and my daughter who are married and getting along quite well in their lives.  The same goes to another son who is not married.  There’s also a hard to define fulfillment that comes with having grandchildren around, too.  (2 are in college, 1 in high school and 2 under 5-years-old)  I met my wife at Pacific Lutheran University while attending a graduate class.  After her stint as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to public education as a junior high counselor.  Now retired, she does her best to put up with me.  What's happened with me in the span of 50 years since the high school graduation…?  Well, a topic like that is what reunions are for, right?

Comment: Most of my work experience was as an escrow officer in the bay area. Left California in 1997 for Washington state and embarked on a new career and passion for horticulture by working up to nursery manager/plant buyer. In 2019 I packed up and set out in my converted Promaster for the warmer and dryer climate of the desert. Now a permanent resident of Nevada. Living’ the life. This will be my first reunion.
