It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the passing of our beloved member, Shauna Garzee. Shauna joined the league in 1987. She was extremely active in the League for many years and was on numerous committees, including VRL, MarCom, Rummage sale, Community, Membership, Fund Development, and Fashion Show. She also held many leadership positions, including Comms VP, Development VP, and Sustainer VP. She was also on the committee that helped establish our endowment fund. Elissa Olson, an endless spring of compassion, strength, and love, passed away unexpectedly on March 7, 2024, in Pomona, CA. She passed peacefully and painlessly after a lung infection developed into septic shock and ultimately heart failure.
Born in Ohio, Elissa moved with her parents and three siblings to Southern California in the mid-1950s. After a childhood spent between Torrance and San Jose, she completed a Bachelor's in Dietetics at Cal State Long Beach. Elissa went on to start her career with an internship in Indianapolis and by her mid-20s had risen to the role of chief dietitian at a local hospital in Southern California, a testament to her exceptional talent and c...

Cynthia (Cyndie) Brown (Rolin)

Cynthia "Cyndie" Rolin Brown, 73, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025 in Sacramento, CA. Born April 28, 1951 in San Jose, she was a devoted wife to the late James "Mike" Brown and a loving stepmother, grand-mother, sister, and friend. A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, she had a career in accounting and was active in the Lions Club and her church communities. She loved art, music, cooking, and hosting family gatherings.
A memorial service will be held at Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in San Jose on May 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.

Randy Siegel passed away unexpectedly in Walnut Creek, California on October 19, 2024, after complications from a ruptured appendix. His wife, daughter, and sister were at his side. He was 73 years old.
Randy was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 13, 1951 to Steve and Harriet Siegel, ex-pat New Yorkers. Steve’s work with the Atomic Energy Commission lead the family to move several times across the country, with stints in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Detroit, Michigan. Moved to New York State while in grade school, then Los Angeles, before settling in San Jose. Graduated from Willow Glen High School, Class of 1969. Attended San Jose State University. Charles Henry Thorsell, born September 28th 1951, living in West Linn, Oregon passed away January 7th, 2016.
After graduating from Willow Glen High School, he went on to earn an A.S. in Electrical technology from San Jose City College.
Sometime later he joined IBM Corp. where he fulfilled a diverse set of technical and leadership roles, including Programmer, System Support Specialist, and later Technical Lead, and Project Manager by the time he retired after 19 years there. On that tragic day Frank unexpectedly passed away at Baldwin Park in Paia, Maui, Hawaii. Frank was born in Portland, Oregon on May 10, 1951. At the age of eleven he moved with his family to the orchard filled Santa Clara Valley where he grew up in the Willow Glen area. As a boy he and his friends participated in all forms of sports.
